Place of Good Cheer – Bridges Tavern

By Stephanie Rennie

Bridges Tavern

Whether it is a cool winter’s evening or a sunny summer afternoon, there is always a place just down the road for good food and great company. Located on Bridge Street in Thornbury, Ontario stands an edifice that functions as a classy restaurant, the local watering hole, and cozy accommodations.

Bridges Tavern is situated next to the Mill Pond and the Thornbury Dam which provide picturesque scenery during a delicious meal. With numerous dining rooms, a spacious bar, two extended patios and an exquisite summer dining area in the back yard, an evening at Bridges can either be intimate or vivacious. Both beautiful atmosphere inside and out, and the fantastic food and drinks have people coming back time and time again.

On a snowy evening the restaurant offers a hearty meal to warm the soul or a place to gather with friends and family alike to enjoy a nice hot beverage. On weekends, Bridges hosts a variety of fantastic bands that fill the walls with lovely music and good cheer. After spending many months apart at school, old friends reunite at Bridges on a frosty Friday night to share a drink and catch up on lost time. The restaurant quickly transforms into the local watering hole as the moon shines high above the night sky and everyone puts on their dancing shoes.

On a warm summer’s day the patio is filled with sunshine and ice cold drinks. No matter the season, Bridges is a great place to enjoy time with old friends or make new ones. One of my favourite summer pastimes is spending an afternoon on the sunny patio with good friends drinking the local Peelers cider and munching on mouthwatering sweet potato fries. As the night eventually falls, the patio lights are lit and the music is turned up. Young and old, locals and tourists, all make their way to the tavern for some fun. With live music, an outdoor pool table, and an indoor and outdoor bar, the tavern is always prepared to entertain!

The tavern is also ideal for visitors to the area needing a nice, cozy place to stay that also provides delicious food and a night of fun. Bridges offers a variety of themed accommodations that compliment the Thornbury area. Thornbury is just kilometers away from Blue Mountain and Talisman for a day full of outdoor fun. It is also home to many prestigious golf courses including The Georgian Bay Club and The Raven at Lora Bay. After a long and exhausting day on the ski slopes or at the golf course, it is only a short drive to a place to rest and unwind.

So if you are in the mood for a romantic dinner or a late night out on the town, Bridges Tavern is the place to be. With delicious food and drinks, it is a fantastic place to enjoy the company of friends and family. While experiencing the delightful atmosphere of the restaurant, one is given the opportunity to see the remarkable scenery that surrounds the tavern.
